How to build a useful Honkai: Star Rail tier list

One universal ranking hides the mode, team, and investment assumptions that decide how a character performs.

01

Separate the three endgame modes

Memory of Chaos

Judge cycle efficiency, single-target and blast damage, weakness coverage, and survival under sustained pressure.

Pure Fiction

Value AOE coverage, action frequency, chained attacks, and the ability to clear repeated waves efficiently.

Apocalyptic Shadow

Focus on toughness reduction, break timing, concentrated boss damage, and answers to encounter mechanics.

02

Rank characters inside their team archetype

Follow-up teams reward characters who trigger or amplify repeated attacks. Break teams care about toughness damage and the support needed to convert breaks into meaningful damage. Damage-over-time teams need reliable effect application and ways to accelerate or detonate that damage.

Some damage dealers also depend on debuffs, turn manipulation, or a specific support package. A character can be excellent inside that system without being a universal account recommendation, so state the archetype in the title.

03

Distinguish lasting utility from current damage

Supports and sustain units often remain useful across more teams because action advance, buffs, debuffs, healing, shields, and efficiency solve broad account problems. Damage dealers are more sensitive to enemy weaknesses, mode rules, and the current encounter lineup.

That does not make every support automatically better. Judge how many teams use the character, whether alternatives exist, and whether their utility still matters when the preferred damage dealer changes.

04

Write the investment baseline in the title

An E0 character with a free or accessible Light Cone is a different comparison from E2S1 or E6S5. Eidolons and signature Light Cones can change rotations, team restrictions, comfort, or damage ceilings.

Use a title such as “E0S0 low-spend ranking” or “high-investment showcase” so readers know what is being measured. Mixing investment levels without a clear rule produces a list that is difficult to use.

05

Try a ranking that is not about raw power

Useful community lists can rank Pure Fiction clearing comfort, free-character value, Simulated Universe synergy, animations, story arcs, or personal favorites. These themes often produce better discussions because the criterion is narrow and easy to understand.

The editor lets you rename tiers and add characters, so the same board can support a serious endgame comparison or a lighthearted fandom list.

Common questions

HSR Tier List Maker FAQ

Is this HSR Tier List Maker free?

Yes. Rank characters, customize tiers, and download a PNG without creating an account.

Should one list cover every endgame mode?

Usually not. Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow reward different strengths, so separate lists are clearer.

Should E0S0 and E2S1 characters share a list?

Only when the title explains the investment assumptions. Separate low-investment and high-investment rankings are easier to interpret.

Can I add new characters?

Yes. Type or paste any character name into the editor, including characters not included in a preset.
